A girls’ weekend in the city, and this was the part we talk about. The guide was as good on the buildings we passed on the way out as he was on the neighbourhood itself. Dyker Heights was decorated like nowhere else.

Mixed feelings, and worth saying honestly. We saw streets we would never have found on our own, and the guide asked us more than once to stick together and keep our eyes on the lit-up Santa he was holding. On a busy night that is harder than it sounds.

I have lived in New York my whole life and had always meant to see the Dyker Heights lights. The guide gave us the background on the decorated houses and on the area, and it was the first time I had seen the Brooklyn Bridge up close. Dress warm.

Toilets on board, plenty of information about the city from Mike on the way out, and a fair amount of walking once you are there. You can bring a pushchair. Plenty of excitement and Christmas spirit.

It took the hassle out of driving to Brooklyn from Midtown, which was the whole reason we booked. Plenty of time to walk around once we were there, and a good stop at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge on the way back.

Not what I hoped for. We walked a few blocks and there were only a handful of houses worth looking at on the stretch we covered. I would not do it again.

Smooth and efficient, with enough time to walk around at all three stops. Hot chocolate and snacks are on sale near some of the houses, usually by the owners. Keep track of where your guide is — several tours run at once, and ours held up a lit-up Santa so we could find him.

The houses are extraordinary and it is a lot of walking on gently sloping roads. Three of our party have knee trouble and everyone got through it, but there are no benches to sit on and it was very crowded. Worth doing if you love Christmas; think about the walking first.

One of our favourite things we did in New York. Daniel gave everyone his number in case we got separated, and the tour stopped at Brooklyn Bridge Park for photographs on the way back. It was snowing and the driver handled it safely.

The guide was knowledgeable and the coach was comfortable, and some of the lights are beautiful. We had a short trip to New York and four hours was a lot of it. Several houses on our stretch had little on them, which surprised us.

We had thought about taking the subway and walking it ourselves, and we were wrong. It is a long way from Manhattan and the guide knew which streets carried the best displays. Bundle up, and bring cash — there are several places along the way to buy hot chocolate.

Easy transitions everywhere, and we had our two-year-old in a pushchair the whole time. The lights are the point but the commentary on the way there was better than we expected. Would recommend it without hesitating.

The displays themselves are genuinely impressive and none of this is the guide’s fault — he had good energy and the driver handled the traffic well. What you should know before booking is that there were fifty-five of us and, because the tour visits residential streets, there was nowhere to find a toilet.

The effort in the decorations on each of these houses has to be seen. Christmas songs on the coach on the way out, ice-cream vans on the corners running snow machines, and some of the residents selling hot drinks from their garages for a few dollars.

The best thing we did all week. The coach was comfortable, the guide had something to say the whole way there and the whole way back, and we stopped more than once for photographs. He offered to take pictures for everyone at one of the houses.

The coach ride was excellent — leather seats, and the driver got us through the city easily. With two seniors in our party the walking was quite the trek: the ground is uneven and it was hard going for them. The guide himself was knowledgeable and walked us through it well.

Very good. Walking the Dyker Heights streets was lovely. Some of the residents sell hot chocolate and there are food trucks on almost every corner. It felt very safe, with a lot of police about.

A great run through the Meatpacking District and out to Dyker Heights. I was sceptical about the Manhattan half and it turned out to be genuinely interesting, all of it from a warm seat. There is some hill walking in Dyker Heights, so bear that in mind. Even the seventeen-year-old enjoyed the lights.

Well organised, and a very comfortable coach with a toilet on board. You are never rushed, but there is an hour of walking in it, so it is not the one to pick if getting about is difficult.

The views and the Dyker Heights houses were excellent and our guide did his best. Check which language your departure runs in before you book — ours was not the one we expected, and five hours is a long time to sit outside a conversation.

A good way to see the decorated houses once, and well arranged. One thing worth flagging: the trip did not end where the listing said it would. We were set down at Bryant Park rather than at Rockefeller Center, which is not quite the same thing.

I did this with my wife and my parents, who have limited mobility, and it was perfect for them. Coaches cannot actually enter Dyker Heights, so they set everyone down to walk the neighbourhood for an hour. That is fine if it is what you want; this meant we could stay in the van and still see all of it.

A very cold and windy night, and our driver made sure we were comfortable and warm. I have difficulty walking and he was patient helping me in and out of the van. The vehicle was spotless and easy to get into. It is expensive, and it was worth it.
